Vimbio Corp. participated in the business mission to China organized by the Xunta de Galicia
The Galician corporation, which has had a presence in the Asian market since 2012, was part of the delegation of Galician companies that traveled to Hangzhou to explore new business opportunities with companies in the region.
Vimbio Corp participated in a business mission to China organized as part of the internationalization initiatives promoted by the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) and the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (IGAPE) from April 21 to 24, 2026.
The delegation, which also included Mª Jesús Lorenzana, Regional Minister of Economy and Industry for the Xunta de Galicia, traveled to Zhejiang Province with the aim of strengthening the presence of Galician businesses in one of Asia’s most dynamic industrial and technological ecosystems.
The Santiago-based company was represented by Marcos Juncal, product manager; Rita Yang, general manager in China; and Pablo Da Silva, head of Manufacturing. The company has had its own office and staff in Guangdong Province since 2012, which gave it a distinct advantage within the Galician delegation when conducting negotiations with Chinese counterparts, backed by more than a decade of actual operations in the country.
For its part, IGAPE maintains a Business Office in China that assists and supports these types of initiatives, providing tailored services to Galician companies interested in the Asian market.
Zhejiang, the epicenter of advanced industry
The work program kicked off on Wednesday, April 22, with a meeting between the Galician delegation and senior representatives of CITIC Group, the Chinese state-owned conglomerate with a presence in Galicia through its subsidiary Citic Censa. The day also featured a matchmaking session between Chinese and Galician companies organized by sector: agri-food, automotive, energy, biotechnology, IT, and robotics. The first day of the trip concluded with a welcome banquet hosted by the mayor of Hangzhou and senior executives from CITIC Group.
The key cities of Zhejiang (Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Jinhua) served as hubs for advanced industry, where the delegation held meetings with both the provincial government and the senior leadership of CITIC Group. Each subregion had its own sectoral profile: Hangzhou was the hub for the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and biomedicine; Ningbo led in green petrochemicals, the automotive industry, and new materials; Jiaxing focused on AI and equipment manufacturing; while Shaoxing was a leader in biotechnology and modern textiles.
Thursday, the 23rd, was devoted entirely to sector-specific visits, with trips to one of these cities based on the specialization of each participating company. Friday, the 24th, brought the series to a close with a high-level thematic conference and a round of trade negotiations in which the governments of eleven cities in Zhejiang sat down face-to-face with Galician companies to explore cooperation agreements.
More than a decade in China
What set Vimbio Corp apart in this context was its ability to operate in China with its own local structure. Having an office and a team in Guangdong since 2012 provides direct knowledge of the country’s regulatory environment, supply chains, and business practices—a competitive advantage that proved particularly important for establishing technology partnerships and manufacturing agreements with leading companies such as those based in Zhejiang.
The Xunta’s internationalization strategy sought precisely to present Galicia as a stable, innovative region capable of attracting high-impact industrial, technological, and logistics projects, opening new avenues for business agreements, technology transfer, and bilateral cooperation. Within this framework, companies with a well-established presence in the Chinese market, such as Vimbio Corp, served as natural intermediaries for their Asian counterparts, shortening the time required to build the trust necessary for any business relationship in China.
China is among the priority markets in IGAPE’s Trade Mission Plan, a program that, since 2014, has allocated more than 12 million euros to organizing international missions with an average annual participation of over 170 SMEs. Vimbio Corp’s participation in this mission was consistent with its track record of sustained internationalization and its firm commitment to the Asian market as an area for long-term growth.
Galicia and the Chinese Market
China is Galicia’s leading market in Asia and ranks among the top twenty destinations for Galician exports. The interest in Zhejiang stemmed from the industrial landscape of a province that is home to some of the country’s most advanced manufacturing, technology, and biotechnology companies, with a critical mass of firms eager to explore alliances with European partners that can provide innovation capabilities, international certifications, and access to Western markets.
For Vimbio Corp, participating in this mission reinforced a strategic positioning that combines Galician origins with an operational presence in Asia.
The company brought to Hangzhou not only its products and brands (Moonoff, Mooncare, Solpers, and Cocomm) but also the accumulated expertise of someone who has spent more than thirteen years building business relationships in China from the inside.
